School holiday activities and wellbeing for the whole family

10 JUL 2020

With school holidays starting this week, activities and trips that you usually do may be off the table. You may find that you have to work during the time you would usually have off, or that you and your family need a break from each other!

There is a range of activities happening in and around Perth for the whole family to take advantage of.

Things may be looking a little different for you and your family these school holidays. While most of WA has now reopened, there are still factors which may make the usual activities difficult. Whether it be money, not being able to take time off work or travel, as usual, people may find themselves looking for something different to do these school holidays. We have put together a list of activities on in Perth which can be enjoyed by adults, kids or the whole family.

Adults

Looking after your wellbeing is important, especially at the moment. It is normal to need a break from others, including your family. Some ideas for taking time out:

  • Go for a long walk
  • Have a day/night with friends
  • Do something new
  • Do a digital detox
  • Go to your favourite place
  • Sleep
  • Watch a sunrise or sunset
  • Go out for a coffee
  • Declutter a space
  • Read a book or listen to a podcast
  • Make a new playlist/listen to your favourite songs
  • Visit a local market
  • Different activities for adults in Perth
  • Travelling within WA

Children and young people

For the whole family

  • Go on a bike trail
  • Go kayaking
  • Go for a drive to a place you haven’t been before
  • Play board games
  • Movie night
  • Try cooking or baking together
  • Looking through old photos
  • Teach each other something new
  • Go out for ice cream
  • Camp in your backyard
  • Go to a museum

It is important to remember that you and your family members may need space. Don’t feel guilty about taking time for yourself and remember that we can only look after others if we are looking after ourselves.
