Stockbrokers ring in $400,000 donation for Perth charities

20 June 2022

A grand total of $400,000 has been raised for four local charities thanks to the generosity of brokers at Western Australia’s biggest stockbroking firm Euroz Hartleys Limited.

Brokers at the Perth-based firm donated their brokerage fees for an entire day on June 17 as part of the company’s annual Commission for a Cause initiative.

The figure is in addition to the sum of $870,885, which was raised in aid of West Australian charities during the first three years of the event.

This year, the funds were divided equally between Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation, Lifeline WA, the Women and Infants Research Foundation and the WA Cricket Foundation.
Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation will use funds raised on the day to secure a revolutionary piece of surgery visualisation technology. The Vitom 3D allows for magnification and image quality equivalent to a microscope during surgery, improving medical outcomes for children.

The Women and Infants Research Foundation will use the funds to further the Foundation’s Predict1000 Study which involves using a pregnant woman’s unique bacterial signature to identify if she is at risk of having a preterm birth. The findings could reduce rates of preterm birth by 40% and save the lives of hundreds of infants in WA and many more around the world.

With anxiety about COVID remaining in the community, Lifeline WA has been experiencing record demand for its telephone crisis support services, with more West Australians reaching out for help. Lifeline WA will use the funds to increase volunteer hours, allowing them to answer more calls and meet demand in this time of need.

The WA Cricket Foundation will use the funds to continue to grow its programs that support young women, people with a disability and Aboriginal cricket in a bid to improve social outcomes in WA. The Foundation’s programs seek to enrich, support and inspire WA to be a better, healthier and more inclusive community.

Euroz Hartleys’ executive chairman Andrew McKenzie said: “Euroz Hartleys has been grateful to be a beneficiary of our growing Western Australian economy over the past 22 years and as WA’s largest and most successful stockbroking and wealth management firm we believe that we have an obligation to give back to our local community.

“We are very proud that our Euroz Hartleys Foundation has now donated $2.7 million to worthy charities since it was established in 2006,” Mr McKenzie added.

“Three years ago, we established our “Commission for a Cause” event where on this one very special day all our staff and clients provide some very meaningful support to WA charities and last year we raised a
record $450,000.

“I would like to thank our clients and staff for their continued support for this very important event. It is only through them working together that we are able to achieve these fantastic results which will directly benefit those in need within our community.

“Commission for a Cause shows what can be achieved when we come together and work as a team and I hope it inspires other organisations to look at how they can make a positive impact on their local community.”
